Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is my choice of the day:
Second Star – Book 1 of the Star Svendotter series by Dana Stabenow
42% The worst thing about Charlie was that I couldn’t slug someone that much shorter than I was and look myself in the mirror the next morning. I began to feel that it might be something I could overcome, given time.
Reaching for a cutting board, she took another, closer look at me, and paused with the knife poised over a green pepper. “You look exhausted, Star. What’s really worrying you?”
BLURB: Earth’s first space colony is overrun by spacepirates, politicians and saboteurs. One person dedicates her life to keeping her beloved colony safe: Esther “Star” Svensdotter. She’s dealt with all kinds of human troublemakers, but the rules change when the colony receives its first contact from aliens.
I’ve read and enjoyed Stabenow’s successful best-selling Kate Shugak series – see my review of Less Than Treason. I’d had this space opera adventure on my Kindle for a while and decided to give it a whirl. So far I’m really enjoying Stabenow’s alternative take on our history, if those pesky aliens hanging out in the Beetlejuice sector really had roused themselves to get in touch…
Sounds like fun! I think it’s time for me to read another space opera😁
So far I’m thoroughly enjoying this one, Tammy!
The teaser you picked has got me wanting to know more about this book. I don’t think I’ve read a space opera before but I’m intrigued by this one. I’ll look out for your review once you’ve finished reading it.
Thank you, Hayley:). This is great fun and I am really enjoying it.
LOL Funny thing is my teaser is kind of similar! This sounds fun, Sarah.
There is a similarity, isn’t there? I hope you continue to enjoy your read, Laura:))
I’ve read Dana Stabenow for years but had no idea she had a space opera! How intriguing!
Yes – Himself uncovered this one, which I’m really enjoying. Stabenow got so cross at the messing and budget cuts with the space program that she wanted to write an alternate history where all the countries contribute towards getting off Earth…
“The worst thing about Charlie was that I couldn’t slug someone that much shorter than I was and look myself in the mirror the next morning.” This line made me laugh so hard. Sounds like it’s a fun read. 🙂
Yes – there is plenty of humour in amongst the action and mayhem…
Sounds like a fun read. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
You’re very welcome, Laurel:)
This sounds like a good teaser to me, Sarah!
Thank you, Jennifer – I have found it an enjoyable read:)
Enjoyed your fun teaser
Thank you, KB:).
This is a good choice for Science Fiction month!!
That’s what I thought, Sassy:))
Good teaser! It’s been a while since I’ve read a space opera. It does sound like this one has some fun parts to it.
Yes, it does… overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Ooh this looks interesting!
Yes, it’s great fun – I’ll be reviewing it in due course.
I look forward to your final thoughts on this one.
Lynn 😀
I’m probably not going to review it, Lynn. I enjoyed it up to the last act when the aliens made an appearance. This is her earliest effort and frankly, it shows. I wasn’t convinced by the aliens, or what happened to her small niece, or the great chunk of info-dumping that occurred near the end. Which is a shame, because the first three-quarters was very enjoyable.
What a GREAT pick, Sarah!! The quote you chose made me want to know more! I like the cover, too! So I went over to Amazon, opened up the reading preview, and read the book’s Introduction, which I really liked, especially because of the author’s humor. Then I read the first few paragraphs of Chapter 1: Homecoming and Housekeeping, and was instantly hooked! I’m adding this book to my Goodreads shelves!
Now I’m wondering if I should go ahead and buy the Kindle edition — because I want to OWN this book already, lol — or the paperback edition….. Some dithering is in order! 🙂
Thanks for putting this book on my Super Duper Intergalactic Warp Space Radar!! HUGS!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have to say – the aliens didn’t quite work for me. While I love her Kate Shugak series, this is Stabenow’s debut novel and I think that it shows, technically…
P.S. Thanks as well for commenting on my own Teaser Tuesday post!! ❤ 🙂
You’re very welcome, Maria:))
P.P.S. Well, your comment to Lynn settled it…..I just bought the Kindle edition. If I don’t like it, either, I will only have wasted ninety-nine cents. LOL. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Yes – I loved the beginning of it, but I’ll be interested what you think of what happens when the aliens arrive…:)
I’ve got a soft spot for Star Svensdotter. The second book rather disappointed me, but I enjoyed the first one immensely (and the third one was back on form). I’ve always thought it a shame Stabenow hasn’t revisited them – she left it wide open for Star to keep exploring 🙂
Yes – I really liked Star – but I wasn’t all that convinced about the aliens and as for the 6yo being whisked away…! But until we hit that bump I’d been thoroughly enjoying myself:)
Well there’s that 😉 I just liked the setting of an orbital under construction and her no nonsense attitude I think 😉
Yes! That was fabulous – and was the bit I really, really enjoyed, too:)

I just appreciate you taking the time to comment, Rae:). It was an enjoyable read.
