Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week’s Can’t-Wait offering:
Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky – release date – 28th March
#science fiction #colony adventure #troubled hero
BLURB: On the distant world of Kiln lie the ruins of an alien civilization. It’s the greatest discovery in humanity’s spacefaring history – yet who were its builders and where did they go?
Professor Arton Daghdev had always wanted to study alien life up close. Then his wishes become a reality in the worst way. His political activism sees him exiled from Earth to Kiln’s extrasolar labour camp. There, he’s condemned to work under an alien sky until he dies.
Kiln boasts a ravenous, chaotic ecosystem like nothing seen on Earth. The monstrous alien life interacts in surprising, sometimes shocking ways with the human body, so Arton will risk death on a daily basis. However, the camp’s oppressive regime might just kill him first. If Arton can somehow escape both fates, the world of Kiln holds a wondrous, terrible secret. It will redefine life and intelligence as he knows it, and might just set him free . . .
I enjoy Adrian Tchaikovsky’s world-building and this tooth-and-claw colony adventure featuring an exiled academic sounds right up my street. And who could resist that beguiling cover?
Sounds like an interesting read. And wow, that cover really is stunning!
Thank you, Tonje – I know… that cover called to me, too:)).
If I’m counting right, this is Tchaikovsky’s THIRD book out this year? Does the man do anything else but write? Lol. In any case this sounds fascinating, wonderful pick😁
Thank you, Tammy. I believe Adrian writes 2,000 words a day. And that mounts up… But I’m definitely looking forward to this offering:)).
I’ve never read this author but I know he is very popular on Booktube. Love the title.
Oh, is he?? I’ll need to have a look on Booktube and check out his fan base. And yes… it’s a clever title.
I haven’t read anything by this author. I agree that cover is wonderful. I’ll have to check it out and see if my library has it.
I’m sure the library does have some of Tchaikovsky’s work. Some of his novellas, in particular, are outstanding. But he covers a wide range of work…
I’ll second Tammy’s amazement: how many books does Tchaikovsky write an a year? Has he found the secret to stretching time – and abolish the need for sleep? 😀
Anyway this book sounds fascinating: deadly alien worlds always are…
Thanks for sharing!
Lol… perhaps he has! It wouldn’t surprise me to hear that he has managed to somehow find a portal where a spider clone of himself is able to crank out the books while he continues his usual life…
It is a good cover. And it does sound interesting. I haven’t read anything by this author yet. Maybe this will be my first. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you, Laura – I’m really looking forward to getting to this one:)).
Another one to add to my wishlist! This sounds so good! I haven’t read anything by this author before, but I want to. Hope you enjoy it! 🙂
Thank you, I’m looking forward to this one:).
I haven’t read anything yet by this author. What Yes, I know… But I really want to.
He has such a diverse range of books that whatever you like – he’s probably got something you’ll appreciate. If you search his name on my site, you’ll find links to most of his stuff other than the first Shadows of the Apt series, which ironically, I don’t like…
Ooh, Adrian Tchaikovsky is always a treat. This one sounds good!
Thank you, Mogsy:). I’m looking forward to getting to it.
