Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – Entangled Secrets – Book 3 of the Northern Circle Coven series by Pat Esden – release date, 7th July, 2020
#fantasy series #witchcraft #feisty heroine
BLURB: Pregnant and alone at twenty-one, Chandler Parrish sought refuge within the Northern Circle coven’s secluded complex. Never revealing the identity of her child’s father, Chandler has raised her now eight-year-old son, Peregrine, in peace, and used her talent as an artist and welder to become a renowned metal sculptor. But her world is shaken to the core when Peregrine shows signs of natural faerie sight—a rare and dangerous gift to see through faerie glamour and disguises that could only have come from his father’s genes. Worse yet, the boy has seen a monstrous faerie creature trailing Lionel Parker, a magic-obsessed journalist determined to expose the witching world.
But the very man who threatens the witches’ anonymity may also be key to healing Chandler’s long broken heart. As dangerous desires and shocking secrets entangle, new faerie threats and demonic foes close in on the coven and High Council. Loyalties will be tested. Fierce magics will be called upon. And Chandler will have to face her past to save all she holds dear: her coven, her child—and perhaps even her own soul.
It wasn’t the cover that attracted me this time – to be honest, I don’t like it all that much. It was the fact that a mother is at the heart of this story. Young, unattached heroines are ten a penny in fantasy fiction, mothers looking out for their children are far less common. Though I appear to have once again crashed midway into a series. Let’s hope this time I fare better than I did with the Daevabad trilogy, where I had to backtrack to fully appreciate the full scope of the unfolding story! Have you got this one on your TBR?
Fae and witches? This definitely sounds like fun. Thanks for sharing, Sarah, this is new to me😁
A single mom and a son who can see fae? Count me in! And yes, the cover is not really a hit but the summary is very intriguing – oh boy my wishlist *sigh* Thank you for sharing.
Oh, tell me about it, Vi. I’ve decided not to bother about worrying over it anymore!!!
The synopsis does sound interesting, Sarah.
I love that it has witches and fae! I hope you enjoy this one, Sarah. It sounds good!
It sounds good and I love witchy books but I agree, that cover is not doing the book any favors.
Thank you Barb – glad I’m not the only one who found the cover a bit – meh…
It is interesting to see a mother being the main character. I’m not a fan of the cover either but the blurb has me interested.
I know! It was the aspect of motherhood being a major component that attracted my attention.
You’re right, I probably wouldn’t have given the cover a second look, but it sounds good! Jumping in mid-series though, I’m not so good at 🙂
Yes… this business of jumping in mid-series is an ongoing hobby – not necessarily by choice, more by carelessness…
I didn’t know about this one and I’m with you about the cover, but the premise doesn’t sound bad and I hope the series works great for you 🙂
Thank you, Silvia – I’m looking forward to this:))
I hear you on finding a series mid way! I always wonder if I am about to jump into a book I will know nothing about and I am too impatient to go back to the beginning LOL! This sounds fantastic, and I agree a mother at the centre of this sounds promising.
I like that the protagonist is a mother as well. You definitely don’t see that very often in Fantasy.
I know! Let’s hope this one is as good as I’m hoping…
I am not a fan of the cover either, but witches and the fae are enough to draw me in. I hope you enjoy this one when yo uread it. I’ll have to look for this series!
Yes – I’ve read it and thoroughly enjoyed it, Wendy. It has a strong romantic thread running through, but there is also a lot of magical action going on, too.
Sarah? Crashing into a series – no way! Hope it works out well – and yes, not loving that cover.
Lynn 😀
I know – what a shocker! Yes, I’ve now completed it and found it a thoroughly enjoyable read:))
Ooo, yes! You know I love me some family dynamic. 🙂
And it proved to be a thoroughly entertaining read, too:)
