Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is my choice of the day:
Spellbound – Book 2 of the Spellwright series by Blake Charlton
30% Cyrus glanced backward and saw one of the men walking on the other side of the street. “Fran,” he said quietly, “I think we’re—ˮ
“Being followed?” she interrupted. “Did you think Vivian would let us wander around on our own?”
“No. I suppose they’d want us to have a chaperone.”
“To stop you from trying to seduce me,” he said wryly.
“You poor, delusional man. So how are we going to shake off our tail?”
He thought for a moment. “Would running away or tossing a stunning spell in his face be a shade too blatant?”
She nodded. “Just a shade.”
BLURB: Francesca DeVega is a healer in the city of Avel, composing magical sentences that close wounds and disspell curses. But when a newly dead patient sits up and tells her that she must flee the infirmary or face a fate worse than death, Francesca finds herself in the middle of a game she doesn’t understand—one that ties her to the notorious rogue wizard Nicodemus Weal and brings her face-to-face with demons, demigods, and a man she hoped never to see again.
I’ve loved this series – the magic system reacts with words and Charlton’s depiction of magic is a layered, complicated world where everyday objects may be primed to ambush you and a demon can ensorcel you without your knowledge. Francesca is an interesting protagonist – clever, spiky and difficult to know. This book is certainly delivering yet another fascinating, engrossing read.
This reads sounds a little different from the norm – and a bit of fun.
It is! I’ve really enjoyed the trilogy, which I read out of order, but wanted to go back and read this, the middle one, and I’m very glad I have…
Sounds good. I’ll have to add this series to my wishlist. This week I’m reading The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Amanda Quick – a new book by a favorite author. Happy reading!
I enjoyed this particular teaser. Mine is posted at http://powerfulwomenreaders.wordpress.com
I’m really enjoying this one, Rae:).
I’m curious, even though I don’t read fantasy…LOL. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “VIVIAN IN RED”
I’m aware this isn’t necessarily your cup of tea, but it is a cracking read:)
Good dialogue. I don’t often read fantasy, but the excerpt drew me in. Maybe I should expand my reading horizons!
My Tuesday post features Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die.
I like the humour here. Sounds like there is a lightness to this read.
Yes, there is a lot of banter and fun – along with an almight power struggle conducted with one of the most tightly constructed, smart magical systems I have ever encountered…
Oh, what a lovely teasing teaser. Makes me want to jump on board with this series.
Lynn 😀
This is a really, really cool fantasy with the most comprehensively clever magical system I’ve ever come across…
Sounds interesting!
Yes, I’ve really enjoyed Charlton’s magic system – it’s unlike anything else I’ve ever read.
