Tuesday Treasures – 30 #Brainfluffbookblog #LightintheLockdown

Standard

Welcome back to my blog! Apologies for the long absence – but you might be aware that on that last Sunday Post, I’d just learnt that the illness we had gone down with was Covid 19 – and both Himself and I went down with it hard. I’m sure it didn’t help that I’d had my vaccination on the previous Saturday…

I don’t ever want to go through another month like March again. Himself missed going into hospital by a whisker, as he had significant breathing difficulties. As for me, I was coping with severe joint pain and life-muffling exhaustion. I just slept, or endured the pain. And no one could come in and help us. It was frightening and miserable. What we did have was a steady stream of concerned enquiries from loving family and my wonderful sister and daughter ensured we didn’t go without any medication or food – not that we ate all that much.

Himself has just started back to work, but I am still recovering. Yesterday I’d planned to start back on my blog, but it was a bad day. I woke up at midday feeling exhausted and by the time I’d showered and dressed – that was it. I’m having to learn to pace myself. So there will still be sudden absences, for which I apologise. But I’ve already learnt the hard way that if I try to push through it, I just end up feeling worse. And most of my mental energy has to go to my writing, which is what keeps my mental health topped up.

Today’s Tuesday Treasures are previous pics I’ve taken of Spring springing, which I’m aware has been going on while I’ve been indoors battling to get well. I’m hoping next week to have had the chance to actually get outside and take some new photos, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy these offerings from previous years. Please, stay safe. I’m here to tell you that this is a terrible illness.x

  1. Oh my gosh Sarah, I’ve been so worried about you. I had a feeling you were sick but I’m so sorry it was Covid!! I’m glad you’re pulling out of it. Please take care and I wish I lived closer so I could make you a good immunity tea❤

    • Thank you so much for your kind concern! It’s been hellish, but we are now recovering. I’m taking lots of vitamins and my lovely mother has ordered in some Floradix, which should arrive today. But I would love to sample your immunity tea!x

  2. Welcome back! It’s a relief hearing from you again: I noticed your absence from the community and if at first I thought you might be deeply committed to some project, as the days went on it was impossible not to fear that the reason might indeed be the one you just shared with us. I’m sorry that it was such a hard month for you – for both of you and for your family too – but the good news is that you are now on the way to recovery. Of course it will take time, and there will be good days and other ones, well, not so good, but the important thing is that you never forget that the worst is over and that time can only bring improvements. My best wishes for your speedy recovery and, above all, take care and don’t overdo it! 💐

    • Thank you so much, Maddalena for your kind words and encouragement. And yes… you’re right. The challenge from now on is to take it easy and not try to do too much. Though at present, I generally pay a high price when I do, so I’m learning to pace myself!

  3. I am so grateful to see ye pop back up again. I was worried. Sorry to hear that Covid had ye down but I am glad to hear that yer family is recovering. What a mess. Continue to improve and take care of yerself and Himself as much as possible. Arrr!

    • Thank you, Cap! Thank goodness Himself has bounced back really well, considering just how ill he’s been. And as me… I’m a Work in Progress. Just taking one day at a time and very grateful to be back and sitting at the computer, again…

  4. I am so, so sorry you got so ill. We have been very careful. I’m still a day at a time but mine is muscle pain. Pain is exhausting even when you are not sick. I’m in week 15 but last week was better. I hope you are feeling better every day!

I love the photos. My standard dwarf bearded iris are blooming now.

    • Thank you, Anne. We were careful, too… Himself would undress out of his uniform in the laundry room and put all his clothing straight into the washing machine, then come straight indoors and head directly for the bathroom and a shower. But these new strains are so very infectious and we live in a small house and chose not to sleep separately. Several other employees at his place also have been ill – I suppose after a certain period of time, it is inevitable…

I am so sorry that you are still in so much pain! I recall how much you were struggling before we became ill. I do hope that last week’s improvement is the start of a steady recovery – my heart goes out to you, knowing how much you generally like to pack into your life.

So glad to hear your bearded iris are in bloom. I have tried growing them, but they don’t thrive in my garden – however they are spectacular flowers and I hope they are giving you lots of pleasure!

  5. I’m so sorry to hear both you and the hubby ended up with COVID and have had such a bad time with it. I’m glad to hear your hubby is feeling well enough to return to work and hope that you’ll start feeling much better soon. Sending healing vibes your way!

    • Thank you so much, Suzanne:)). I know that I just need to take it easy and listen to my body. Although it is quite frustrating, I am trying hard to pace myself.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear that, Sarah ☹️ . . . Please, take your time and I really hope you’re going to completely recover soon!!

P.S. Thanks for sharing the lovely pics, I love daffodils 💛

  7. I’m so relieved to see your post, I was quite worried. I’m sorry to hear that the two of you have been struggling, but I’m glad you are both in recovery. I hope it gets easier each day, take care and treat yourselves kindly.

  8. I’ve been worried and am so happy you are some better. I love all your photos. Wonderful to see spring no matter what year it is. I hope you continue to gain strength every day. I hope your husband continues to feel well, too. Take good care of yourselves.

  9. Oh no, Sarah! I’m so sorry for both of you. I’m also surprised the vaccine you had didn’t keep Covid away. Pace yourself and take care. Your flower photos are gorgeous!

    • Thank you for your kind good wishes, Jennie and I’m glad that you like the flower pics – I hoped they would cheer folks up:)

The vaccination needs at least 3-4 weeks to build up sufficient antibodies to provide adequate protection – I had mine just as I was going down with the wretched thing, sadly.

      • You’re welcome, Sarah. Bad timing for sure. Can you be revaccinated? Or will having the disease protect you from getting it again?

      • I will have my second vaccination at the end of May. The antibodies produced by having the illness may well provide some protection. I’ve been part of a study since last year, when each month I take a swab test. And now, I also donate about 5 ml of blood each month, so they can track what’s going on. We had our first test this week and it was a bit of a caper to get the right amount of blood into the little phial they provided – but I’m happy to do anything to help fight back on this terrible illness. Having had it – I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!

      • That is very interesting! Our son had it, too. Really horrible. How wonderful that you’re helping and part of the study. I do hope the antibodies from the disease will give you added protection. Best to you, Sarah.

      • Thank you, Jennie – and I’m so sorry to hear that your son has had it and I hope he is now fully recovered. Yes, we’ve been told that once we get on our feet, we should be well protected.
