Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. I have linked this post to #Sci Fi Month 2020…
This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – A Desolation Called Peace – Book 2 of the Teixcalaan series by Arkady Martine – release date – 2nd March 2021
#science fiction #space opera adventure
BLURB: An alien armada lurks on the edges of Teixcalaanli space. No one can communicate with it, no one can destroy it, and Fleet Captain Nine Hibiscus is running out of options.
In a desperate attempt at diplomacy with the mysterious invaders, the fleet captain has sent for a diplomatic envoy. Now Mahit Dzmare and Three Seagrass—still reeling from the recent upheaval in the Empire—face the impossible task of trying to communicate with a hostile entity.
Whether they succeed or fail could change the fate of Teixcalaan forever.
I absolutely loved A Memory Called Empire, as it’s one of my Outstanding Reads of the Year – I’m reviewing it tomorrow. And so I am very much looking forward to this sequel! This has been an excellent year for space opera adventures – and it looks as though that run is going to continue into the coming year – yay! Anyone else got this one on their wish list?
Unfortunately I have not started this series, but I know everyone loves it. Looking forward to your review of the first book😁
It’s a cracking read – I wasn’t sure whether I’d like it as I’ve read some rather disappointing space opera reads this year, in amongst the jewels. But I absolutely loved it.
I still need to read A Memory Called Empire, so I guess this is my wake-up call to shift it higher in the pile. 🙂
I highly recommend it – apart from anything else, I’d love to know what you think of it:))
Cool looking cover! Hope you get it soon.
Lisa Loves Literature’s Wednesday post
Thank you, Lisa. I’m HOPING for an arc, but if I don’t get one, I’ll buy this…
I love space opera. This looks good!
Oh, it is, Greg! I’ve also found Sci Fi Month has given me a bunch of recommendations for some excellent space opera, too:))
Sounds like a great series. Nice pick this week and I hope you love it as much as A Memory Called Empire.
Thank you, Barb – I’m really, really looking forward to it. And I hope it’s as good as A Memory Called Empire, too:))
I’m wondering how I missed this series. Been reading quite a bit of sci fi and these sound thrilling. I’ll be watching for your review.
I absolutely loved the first book A Memory Called Empire, Laura – I’ve reviewed it today (26th) and it is definitely going to make my Outstanding Reads of the Year list:))
This sounds so epic!
Thank you, Verushka – I’m looking forward to it:))
Wow, that’s crazy, I can’t believe the second is so close to release.
That’s definitely something for you to look forward to given that you just read the first one.
Lynn 😀
I actually read this one a bit earlier in the year – but I tend to stack up some of my sci fi reviews for November:)). But I’m thrilled I won’t be waiting too much longer for this next book…
This sounds so good and I’m always up for a well written space opera so thanks for putting this series on my radar.
You’re very welcome, Suzanne. I have thoroughly enjoyed this one…
I wish I had read the first book when I had the chance 🙂
Maybe there will be a special offer when the 2nd one is released – there often is:)).
