Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – Ghost Ups Her Game – Book 9 of the Bailey Ruth series by Carolyn G. Hart – release date, 4th August, 2020

BLURB:
After a busy morning dispatching emissaries from Heaven’s Department of Good Intentions to those in need, Bailey Ruth Raeburn is feeling flush with success. So when an urgent call for help comes through from her old hometown, she can’t resist taking on the mission herself. After all, what could go wrong? With the shouted warning of her boss, Wiggins – “Irregular! Problematic!” – ringing in her ears, she arrives to face a shocking scene: Professor Iris Gallagher leaning over the corpse of her colleague Matt Lambert, the murder weapon clutched in her hand. Bailey Ruth is only sent to help the innocent, but things are looking very black for Iris. With Wiggins breathing down her neck, and her old friend Police Chief Sam Cobb casting doubt on her every theory, Bailey Ruth must uncover the truth – or this could be the last trip to earth she’s ever allowed to make.
I am always on the look-out for a sub-genre of murder mysteries with a twist of something different, so I was delighted when I saw this one on Netgalley. And yes… I knew in advance I’d be crashing into the middle of a series, but it’s a hobby of mine – and over the years, I’ve found some wonderful authors and cracking reads. Hopefully this will be another delightful addition.
This is a new series to me and one that I think sounds really good! Hope you enjoy this installment.
I just fell in love with the premise – and I’m looking forward to tucking into this one:)).
Hopefully this is one of those series you can easily crash into! It sounds like fun, I also love murder mysteries with speculative elements😁
I’m hoping this is a series I can crash, too. It usually works out:)). But that premise made my mouth water, so I felt it was worth the risk.
I hope you enjoy it! I’ve loved this author. I read the first one in this series quite awhile ago.
Thank you for the reassurance, Anne – it’s great to hear that this is a good author from a reviewer I respect:)
I’ve crashed into the middle of long running series before, too. It usually works out. 🙂
It does, doesn’t it? Because if authors didn’t give readers a chance to connect and catch up, then they are losing potential sales – and they generally don’t do that:).
I have a number of this author’s books on my TBR and this looks fantastic! I love the cover!
Oh that’s interesting, Katherine! Have you read any of them, yet? Yes, the cover intrigued me, too:)
This definitely fits the bill for what you’re looking for! Kudos for being able to jump in mid-series 😀
Oh, it’s sheer dumb opportunism, Mogsy… Mostly it works out and it’s a habit I haven’t been able to break:).
Okay, this is one of the quirkiest and unusual plots I’ve seen in a long time, and it sounds fantastic — what a great find!
I hope so, Verushka. I found that blurb too good to pass up:)).
This sounds really good and perhaps this is a series I need to consider checking out. Stormi and I will need a new one for next year for our buddy read project so I should start looking now.
I’m hoping it is going to be a really strong series…:))
Haha, i love that you crash into series – I have done so in the past a couple of times but by accident. Respect to you
Lynn 😀
I don’t deserve any respect, Lynn! It used to happen by accident, but then I found it mostly was okay anyway:)).
Sounds unusual! Hope you get it soon!
Check out my Wednesday post
Thank you:)).
I love how unique this sounds and hope that jumping into the middle of this series works out for you. 🙂
Me, too:)). Though jumping into the middle of series is a hobby of mine, anyway…
Although I prefer reading a series in order, I am okay with jumping into a series in the middle. Like you, I have discovered some great series that way! It really depends on the genre or type of book though. I really like the sound of Ghost Ups Her Game. It sounds like a series I would really enjoy. I hope you enjoy it when you read it! Stay safe and well.
Yes – and that’s why I won’t give up jumping into series. I have found so many lovely authors and series that way, too. And I thought Ghost Ups Her Game sounded like fun – and I’m allll about fun in my reading if I can possibly manage it at present! I hope you, too, stay safe, Wendy:)
