Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – Murder in the Dark – Book 6 of the Ishmael Jones series by Simon R. Green
#Murder mystery #paranormal whodunit #crime duo
“The past is England’s dreaming, and not all of it sleeps soundly…”
Ishmael Jones and his partner Penny have been despatched to assist a group of scientists who are investigating a mysterious black hole which has appeared on a Somerset hillside. Could it
really be a doorway to another dimension, an opening into another world?
I’ve really enjoyed this series – Into the Thinnest of Air and Death Shall Come were both great fun and full of creepy mayhem. So I’m looking forward to this latest offering, due out on 1st December.
This is one I definitely would like, and a murder mystery I skimmed (blush) the other day made me realize how much I enjoy a good mystery. I decided not to review the one I ran through because I only review on PWR books I really, really like.
Quite right, too – no point in sitting down to review a book if you don’t feel the love for it! I also love a good mystery murder so was delighted when I saw this one was available.
A creepy book is perfect for this time of year. I hope you love this one, Sarah!
Thank you, Jennifer. Yes – I was quite proud of myself that I managed to find a suitable book for the time of year – normally I’m blithely oblivious of such things:)).
Thank you, Jennifer:) I’m looking forward to tucking into this one when the weather gets gloomier and I’m curled up by the fire…
This sounds interesting, it’s not a series I’m reading but that cover is so atmospheric, I’m very tempted. Thanks for sharing 😊
It’s great fun – I rather enjoy the mix of the whodunit with a paranormal twist:)
This sounds like a good series, Sarah. I haven’t really heard of it so I’m going to go search for the first one. Good pick!
This isn’t a series where you necessarily have to read them in order – the current whodunit is the one that generally features, while the necessary backstory is filled in as you go. So if you feel like diving in, then go for it:)
I don’t know why I’ve not read a book by this author yet. There are so many I’m curious about. Great choice and hope you love it!
Thank you:). Too many books and too little time, Barb… We definitely need a timeturner!
I feel like I need to read something by this author if I haven’t yet. Great pick!
Check out my Wednesday Post
He’s written quite a lot books and his writing is always interesting and often quirky – I think you may well enjoy some of his other stuff.
I haven’t heard about this series, but it sounds like something I would like.
His books aren’t out and out horror, which I’m too much of a wuss to read, but they often have a creepy edge to them.
Sounds fun! I feel like I’ve read a book by him, but can’t remember for sure. 🙂 Or which one … I should go look that up
I would be interested to know which one you’d read – and whether you enjoyed it, Lisa.
I’ve seen Green’s name around, but I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of his books yet. I hope you enjoy this one!
Thank you, Mogsy. I’m certainly looking forward to this one:)
This is another series I’ve been reading to start. I enjoy the genre and have heard some good things about it.
I have realy enjoyed this series to date – the nice thing is that you don’t have to read them all from the beginning to get a real sense of what is going on.
A murder mystery in a paranormal setting sounds like the perfect combination – particularly now that the season calls for this kind of story… 😀
And the cover looks enticing indeed…
Yes – nice timing on the part of Severn House, I think:)
I’m into murder mysteries at the moment so always happy to see more recommendations – although if somebody could invent some way of extending the day it would be helpful with the old tbr.
Lynn 😀
Well, if someone can extend the day then I’ll be right in the front of the queue – I’ll save you a place:)).
I also love a good mystery, but not big on creepy. I think I will go back and check out the first in this series, before deciding. Great share Sarah.
Thank you, Carla. I would just add that while it is creepy – we are NOT talking horror. I don’t do horror…
Thanks, that is good to know. Creepy is not bad then.
I love the sound of this “The past is England’s dreaming…”. Book 6?? You may have just increased my TBR piles… x Brilliant pic!
Yes – but you don’t have to read all the others to thoroughly enjoy each murder mystery.
