Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – The Flowers Vashnoi – Book 14.5 of the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold

#science fiction #novella #adventure

Takes place the summer after Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance

While I’m a fan of short blurbs – this one is very curtailed. However, fans of Bujold’s work, also know this features Ekaterina AND there are butter bugs! So it’s pretty much irresistible really. Needless to say – whatever else is being read at the time – whenever this one goes live, I’ll be gobbling it up.

  1. I haven’t read the Vorkosigan Saga or anything by this author before. I am exploring more and more science fiction though so might have to give Bujold a try.

  2. I’ve never read Bujold but I’ve certainly heard of her and the Vorkosigan books. I didn’t realize there were so many books in the series. She’s one of those authors I wouldn’t mind checking out one of these days.

    • Oh do! You’re in for SUCH a treat – though do read them in the order they are set rather than the order they are written as she did a fair amount of dotting around.

    • Butterbugs are engineered insects genetically programmed to eat inedible products and turn them into food, though the catch is they are revolting to look at… And the cover is pretty, isn’t it?

  3. That might be the shortest blurb I’ve ever read, lol. I’m not familiar with this author or series but like the commenter above me, I’m now quite curious to know what a butter bug is.

    • Butterbugs are engineered bugs designed to turn whatever they eat into food for colonies – they make a wonderful entrance in Bujold’s comedy of manners during a very posh banquet… I’m intrigued where she takes them next! The Vorkosigan Saga is unlike any series of sci fi books I’ve ever read and I love them.

    • She’s one of my personal writing heroines – she’s written a long-running science fiction series featuring adrenaline junkie and physically challenged protagonist, Miles Vorkosigan and his family. We have them all… She also has written some fine fantasy – my favourite is The Curse of Chalion and I love her current novella series featuring Penric and Desdemona.

  4. Another peek into the Vorkosigan universe! To say I’m thrilled would be a massive understatement 🙂
After “Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen” I thought Bujold was ready to say goodbye to her Vor saga, but it looks as if she’s changed her mind, which makes me very, very happy…
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!!
