40276268 – vintage old pocket watch and book

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week’s Can’t-Wait offering – Meet me in the Strange by Leander Watts

#science fiction #YA #magic realism

Davi tries to help a new friend, Anna Z, escape a cruel and controlling brother, and the teens end up running away to follow the tour of their rock idol, the otherworldly Django Conn. The story is set in a weird and wonderful retro-futuristic city of glam-girls and glister-boys and a strange phenomenon that Anna Z calls the “Alien Drift.”

This one sounds a bit weird and interesting. I’m hoping for the same kind of vibe that Justina Robson manages in her Quantum Gravity series. I’ve never come across anything quite like it before or since. And that cover is fabulous, isn’t it? Not that I am ever unduly influenced by book covers. In any way. At all…

    • Ah… I’ve checked on my records – and I’ve slightly got my wires crossed. I did break off reading a Christopher Moore book – A Dirty Job – but it wasn’t because it was poorly written – it was because there was a fair amount of bleakness mixed in with the quirkiness and I was dealing with a lot of stuff at the time and wanted more escape and less grief… So apologies to Christopher Moore – as it happens, I got him mixed up with ANOTHER Christopher…

      • I wish just curious. Yes, that one is rather dark. I need to re-read it so I can complete the sequel some day. Hey, I’ve wanted to throw a King book before – particularly Under the Dome, but I’m pretty sure I would have broken something or harmed someone.

  1. Nice cover, for sure! I’m intrigued! Love the futuristic city in the background, and the description sounds fun and quirky…

  2. It does sounds unusual, which is actually pretty refreshing. Sometimes I feel like I read so many blurbs that they all start to sound the same. This one is a real standout though. I hope you enjoy it!

  3. I do like that cover! And yes, weird and interesting come to mind after reading the description of this one. It sounds like it will be good!

  4. Well, here I am, trying to catch up with all the comments back! 🙂 🙂

WOW, what an AWESOME pick!! That cove SURE grabbed me RIGHT AWAY!! And the plot is right up my alley, too — quirky, weird, and strange!! Lol.

I’ve never heard of this book before, nor have I heard of Justina Robson and her Quantum Gravity series. Gotta check them out! As for “Meet Me in the Strange”, I’m adding it to my Goodreads shelves at warp speed! Lol.

Thanks for all the nice comments you’ve been leaving in my blog!! HUGS!! ❤ ❤ ❤ 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • You’re very welcome, Maria – I know how it feels when the comments stack up… I am such a sucker for a cool-looking cover and this one just jumped out at me:)). I’m hoping it will be a cracking read, too. Take care and have a fabulous week:))
