Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is my choice of the day:
The Bear and the Serpent by Adrian Tchaikovksy
31% It had not Stepped, but it flew, wings shimmering from its back. It cursed Yellow Claw and cursed all of them with nonsense sounds as it hovered up near the cave’s ceiling, before the horrified eyes of the priests. The gaping emptiness within it dragged at their souls, jealous for what it could not have.
Loud Thunder did not sleep that night, and he reckoned the rest wouldn’t either.
BLURB: Maniye, child of Wolf and Tiger, has a new soul and a new shape. But as Champion of the Crown of the World, does she represent an opportunity for the North – or a threat? Travelling as a bodyguard to the Southern prince, with her warband of outcasts, she hopes to finally discover her true place in the world, though she is quickly pitchforked in the middle of a crisis that puts her at the eye of a political storm.
Yet all the while, an enemy from the most ancient of times prepares for conquest, and could destroy everything in their path…
This is the sequel to Tchaikovsky’s impressive The Tiger and the Wolf , released last year. If you like epic fantasy and also enjoy shape-shifting protagonists, then track down the first book in this excellent series. This sequel is shaping up to be every bit as enjoyable and full of incident as it takes our cast of characters onward through this adventure. I shall be reviewing this one in due course.
I spied this on Netgalley and was tempted to request but as I haven’t read the first book yet I thought best not 🙂 It is definitely on my tbr though.
Yes, Adrian does do a ‘This is the story so far’ which is really helpful but you’d miss far too much if you haven’t read the first book and it’s too good to forego that pleasure, I think.
Here’s my Tuesday Teaser. I am discontinuing it on my blog and am pleased to be able to leave it here: From One Damned Thing After Another, the 2013 publication of the first book in the “Chronicles of St. Mary’s” series:
The teaser describes raptors attacking time travelers. “I watched as the first two (raptors) leaped in a pincer movement…And, it’s true they don’t wait until their prey is dead before eating. I watched them rip and tear…I watched them snarl and gobble…” graphic but exciting.
Yes… and there is a certain satisfaction involved, given who they are eating:). Glad you enjoyed the book, Rae and I really enjoyed reading your review.
I really liked your review. As always, the teaser was intriguing.
Yes, this one is shaping up to be a cracking adventure, but then Tchaikovsky is such a talented author, anyway.
I don’t do a lot of epic fantasy. It does sound exciting though.
My TT from The Fixer
It is, Laura! The Fixer also sounds exciting – it a completely different way…:)
This looks very interesting. I’ll put it on the TBR wish list.
He’s a fab writer, Loreen:).
Beautiful description. I don’t often read fantasy or sci-fi, but this sounds like a good one.
My Tuesday post features THE SEA BETWEEN.
It’s a really good read, Sandra:). Thank you for swinging by.
This is high on my purchase list!
It’s worth it!
I’m not sure this is one for me but I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for coming by:). Yes, I’m really enjoying this one.
That sounds interesting, but I should probably read book one first. 🙂
Oh yes… I do recommend it. There are books where you can jump into the series, but there are so many different plotpoints to pick up on, despite Tchaikovsky’s excellent ‘The Story So Far’, I think you’d lose a lot by not reading it – apart from anything else, it is a brilliant book.
Not my usual pick, but the excerpt is intriguing. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
You’re welcome, Laurel. Have a great week:)
I love the cover, title, teaser, and blurb! Looks like my kind of book!
I’ve nearly finished reading it and it’s been really enjoyable:)
I’m glad you’ve been enjoying this! I didn’t fare as well with mine. Didn’t even bother with a full review — just tossed on a mini rant at the end of Tuesday’s post 🙂
Oh what a shame:(. It’s miserable when you end up with something you hoped was going to be good and it isn’t. Better luck with the next one, Karen.
I saw this on NG but missed my chance to request a copy! I’ll have to check out if it’s available to buy.
Lynn 😀
It is now available – but do read The Tiger and the Wolf first.
Ooo! I want to read this! Your teaser sold me on this one, Sarah. Adding the first to my wish list.
It’s a really great series – he’s a talented writer:).
