Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is my choice of the day:
Emperor of the Fireflies – Book 2 of the Tide Dragons series by Sarah Ash
4% Kai swivelled his head around to try to make out what had become of Masao. And as the inexorable pull of the outgoing tide tugged Kai further out to sea, away from the contours of the familiar shoreline, he saw a white-haired man crawl out of the receding tide. Naked, water streaming from his body, the distant figure pushed himself up to hands and knees on the damp sand. As Kai stared, he saw color flood into the man’s long white hair, turning it as dark as if someone had poured a pot of ink over his head.
BLURB: Kai and Masao, once enemies, are now condemned to the sea by the Tide Dragons’ Sacrifice. If Hotaru, the new emperor, is unable to summon the Tide Dragons of Ebb and Flood at the Autumn Moon Festival, he will forfeit the right to rule Cipangu. The two Sacrifices face a desperate race against time to free themselves from this ancient curse before Hotaru binds them with forbidden magic to obey his will – forever.
Sakami, Kai’s lover, has become a kitsune, a fox spirit. She is determined to do all in her power to save him – but is Hotaru, aided by his treacherous shikigami, Kurika, just too formidable an opponent to overcome?
I read and reviewed the first book in this Japanese epic fantasy adventure here, so when Sarah Ash let me know the second book is now available, I rushed over to Amazon and snapped it up. Now I’ve reacquainted myself with the story and the stakes involved, I’m settling in for another slice of this wonderful world.
I love the sound of this teaser! I have a weak spot for stories with dragons, so I will have to check this one out. Happy reading!
Thank you Yvo:). Yes, I’m really glad I’ve decided to read this one next – the first book was really enjoyable and original.
Interesting teaser. Looks like a good series. My Teaser is from The Sleepwalker by Chris Bohjalian
It is a delight:). I’m looking forward to properly tucking into this one.
Sounds like a good one, Sarah. I’ve not read much of this genre recently.
My TT from Carpe Bead’em
It is a good read – and different. Your Carpe Bead’em sounds like a lot of fun, Laura:). Are you enjoying it?
Sounds intriguing. I have two this week – Beheld by Alex Flinn and A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn. Happy reading!
I really like the sound of ‘Beheld’ – it sounds great. I hope you are enjoying it and hope you have a great reading week.
I love stories set in Japan, and the image of a man emerging from the water and his hair changing color is intriguing!
This is a really cracking series, Tammy – but do start with the first book.
It’s a great scene, isn’t it? I love Ash’s writing – but I recommend you read the first book, first.
Hmm, I’m not sure, but the excerpt was beautiful. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “THE MARRIAGE LIE”
Sarah Ash is a fine writer:). The Marriage Lie seems like a really good book and I hope you enjoy it, Laurel.
Great description in the Teaser. I felt as if I were watching the old man emerge from the sea. Although I don’t often read fantasy, this sounds like a story I’d enjoy.
My Tuesday post features MOONRISE.
It is very much set within the Japanese pantheon and I’m enjoying the world, along with the story.
This intrigues me. I haven’t read many books about Japanese culture/tales and I should try to remedy that this year. Here’s my link for today’s intro/teaser from Leopard at the Door: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1rl
This is a lovely world. I enjoyed your teaser and hope you enjoy reading the book.
What an intriguing excerpt. Can’t wait for your review.
Lynn 😀
I thoroughly enjoying this one:)
Wow, I must get this one. I have a soft spot for Japan (and not just because I lived in East Asia for many years… it’s the other way round!) and this book looks like something I’ll enjoy. Thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed the first book – but I’m loving the second one even more. Do start with The Flood Dragon’s Sacrifice, though, or you will definitely struggle a bit with the second book – but I think this series is a gem.
Thanks, I’ll note it down 🙂
I need to read more fantasy and be caught up in another world/universe. Maybe my next read.
I’m really enjoying this one – it’s a class read.
Awesome teaser! Though that doesn’t sound very good! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
