Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is my choice of the day:
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
19% Eldest leaves the Learning Center door open, and as he storms away, my eyes drift up to the metal screen, behind which are the twinkling lightbulbs I thought were stars. Why lie about the screen, about the hidden level of the ship? And what other lies has he been telling?
BLURB: Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone—one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship —tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn’t do something soon, her parents will be next.
This is a generational ship story carrying the seeds of a colony. Forty-nine years from their destination and in the wake of a plague that decimated the population and abruptly changed the power dynamic on board the ship, a young leader-in-training starts stumbling across more secrets than he should. It is early days, but I’m enjoying the story so far.
Sounds really good. I do love the whole being trapped while someone’s out to get you storyline.
Yes – this one was recommended to me, so I have high hopes. All being well, I’ll review it in due course:)
This sounds intriguing, Sarah. Although the premise is completely different, this one brings to mind the sci fi show Dark Matter. I hope you continue to enjoy this one!
Yes – stuck on a generational ship while the situation slides away is always a strong premise. I’m hoping to continue to enjoy it, thank you Wendy.
This sounds really good – I look forward to your review very much.
Lynn 😀
Thank you, Lynn:)
Great teaser! It definitely made me want to pick up my own copy soon; I like the writing style and blurb.
It’s still early days yet – but I’m really enjoying it. Thank you for swinging by and I hope to be reviewing it in due course.
Sounds like a good one. it’s a challenge for an author to write about generations of families on a ship. It’s not like they can get up and leave! These kind always catch my attention, get me curious.
My TT from Friend Of The Devil
I’m about halfway through and really grabbed by the situation, which is lurching into being very creepy.
Interesting, even Aurora (KSR) is about generation ships… I should read this one soon! Thanks for sharing:)
I’ve now put this one down to acquire VERY soon – many thanks for the mention Steph – and for swinging by:)
Huh, I never actually knew what this book was about. That does sound interesting! Glad you’re enjoying it so far 🙂
It’s shaping up to be a cracking read – I shall doubtless be reviewing it in due course.
This isn’t my normal read but it does sound quite good. Will wait for your review to decide.
I’ve now finished it and will be definitely reviewing it:). I really enjoyed it.
